StoneCrabs Out On An Island Pride In Self Pride In Place Project invites you to join us, in recording new LGBTQ+ oral histories. Together, we can bring our history to life!
Oral History training delivered by Oral Historian, Museum and Heritage Educator, Lisa Kerley.
You can now enrol for two FREE Oral History Interviewing Techniques Training Sessions, on September 12 and 19 at the Riverside Centre, Newport from 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
On September 12, Lisa will guide us through the process, forms, and techniques required to ensure the oral histories are recorded in accordance with archival standards. It is crucial to adhere to these requirements.
On September 19 will be a hands-on, practical session led by Lisa. In small groups, we will follow the steps and guidance we received, ensuring that we capture the stories with care and attention to detail.
Our community has made significant progress, but there is still more work to be done. As we have been recently reminded by a young person in our ‘History of Pride’ workshops: “If people think we don’t need Pride, they are not paying enough attention to what is going on”. We believe that we can make a difference to future generations by recording our stories, making sure that every voice matters, and every story deserves to be heard.
Your presence and contribution will help us elevate each other’s voices, celebrating our past, present, and future. You will be fully supported when you eventually record the stories with a second interviewer present.
