StoneCrabs’ Out on an Island is embarking on a new project, funded by Historic England. We will be exploring Ryde’s LGBTQ+ Working Class Histories and uncovering the hidden heritage of Ryde’s Union Street and a number of venues there, some of which are no longer present.
Everyone is welcome to join us as we meet monthly with guest speakers and together explore memories of the venues frequented by LGBTQ+ people in the past.
If you have memories of venues such as The Redan, Bar 74, Patsy’s, and the Prince Consort, we are eager to hear any stories you might be willing to share.
We will be hosting our first meeting at The Department in Ryde from 5.30pm to 7.30pm on Tuesday 20 May in the meeting room on the first floor. This is an accessible venue with a lift to the first floor.
